CMOS vs. DXPD

The rise of digital X-rays can be largely attributed to CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) image sensors. This technology, dating back as far as the 1960s, essentially functions as an electronic eye that converts invisible X-ray photons into electrical signals that can be used to generate digital images.
 
While more convenient than film X-rays, CMOS sensors often have inferior image resolution due to photon loss in the conversion process, which involves multiple layers of sensors. Each layer can degrade image quality, thereby reducing diagnostic information. They can also be bulky and uncomfortable for patients and cost several thousand dollars. 

Acuity is different. Its novel DXPD technology directly captures X-ray photons, meaning images don’t go through the processing that dilutes CMOS images. Acuity produces images with higher resolution and dynamic range using a slimmer, more ergonomic sensor profile. In essence, Acuity pairs the image fidelity of film X-rays with all the convenience and speed of digital.
