SALES & MARKETING ANSWERS

How will a laser enhance my dental practice?

Most dentists who have incorporated a laser into their practice believe that laser dentistry has long surpassed electrosurge as a treatment option and is rapidly becoming the 21st century replacement for the scalpel. Laser dentistry enables practitioners to manage soft tissue procedures in a clinically effective manner producing results which are generally more predictable reducing patient post-op pain and discomfort. Using the laser consistently enables the practitioner to administer fewer local anesthesias which are better all around for both dentist and patient. Lasers can be used effectively and efficiently on various soft tissue procedures including gingival troughing, gingivectomies, uncovering implants, for decontamination and desensitizing procedures. Dental lasers like Picasso Lite are compact in design, easy-to-use and very cost-effective to own.

How has laser dentistry impacted patient treatment?

Laser Dentistry has rapidly emerged with a new level of quality care for patients. Features like the ability to perform more procedures in less time without sacrificing patient care and comfort are an added advantage. A wide range of dental practice specialties and their patients benefit from laser treatment. For instance, lasers can be used around metal crowns, on patients with pacemakers and braces, on teeth with metal amalgams, and in procedures involving bone structure – all with few negative effects. Patients report that laser treatments are much gentler than those administered with an electrosurge and result in little or no recession, swelling, less necrosis, and a quicker post-op healing process. Additionally, laser surgery is substantially less invasive therefore generates less bleeding during the procedure. Lasers are predictable, precise and produce a reduction in the need for suturing.

What is the difference between the Picasso and Picasso Lite?

Choosing the best laser for your practice requires analyzing the types of procedures you are performing. The Picasso is the original or "flagship" in the Picasso line of AMD LASERS products, and is a soft-tissue diode laser represented by a breakthrough in price and technology. The Picasso offers an unprecedented level of affordability, and is a multi-functional laser that offers practitioners comprehensive clinical results in surgical, periodontal therapy, endodontic procedures and teeth whitening. Additional features include 8 programmable presets, a color touch screen, multi-lingual menu, international power adapter, low operating cost and two year warranty. The Picasso offers the ability to utilize convenient disposable tips or low cost strippable fiber.
Designed for the first-time laser dentist and hygienist, the Picasso Lite"s ultra-affordable pricepoint and ease-of-use has earned it recognition as the world´ most popular dental laser. Featuring a compact, lightweight and sleek design, the Picasso Lite comes complete with diode laser certification options, multiple accessories, international power adapter, 3 programmable presets and two year warranty. The Picasso Lite offers the ability to utilize convenient disposable tips or low cost strippable fiber.

TROUBLESHOOTING

The key is in the "On" position but the laser won't start

Check to make sure that the circuit breaker (black switch) on the back of the device is turned to the "On" position . If the switch is in the "On" position but the laser still doesn't fire, press the emergency stop button (red switch) on the top of the unit. If the laser is in the "On" position but no red aiming beam is visible, check to make sure the aiming beam is not in the "Off" Mode. A beep tone will sound when the laser is in firing mode.

Aiming Beam Activation

Picasso: To activate, Press the "Settings" icon then press the "Light Bulb" icon to turn on the aiming beam or modify the intensity. Make sure that the "STAND BY" button on the bottom of the screen is green and says "READY".
Picasso Lite: To activate, press the "Light Bulb" icon to turn on the aiming beam or modify the intensity. Make sure the green indicator light located just above the "Ready" button is illuminated. If the "Ready" mode button is on but the laser does not cut while using strippable fiber, make sure that the fiber is properly cleaved and that its tip is initiated. If using disposable tips, make sure the tip is initiated. If the laser is beeping, make sure the fiber connector is securely attached to the back of the unit.

Stripping and cleaving the strippable fiber

Using the provided stripper, gently strip off approximately 1 inch of protective coating so that the fiber is exposed. Next, hold the fiber on a solid surface and lightly score the fiber with the cleaver (white ceramic square) provided in your kit. Finally, gently break the tip off between your fingers. The fiber only needs to be stripped after three to four procedures or when it extends less than 1/8 inches (3.175 mm) from the nonstripped portion. Each fiber should last approximately 6 months depending upon overall usage and the number of cleaving instances between patients.

Initiating tips

By initiating the tip, the laser is activated into a soft tissue cutting device. The initiating process focuses the laser energy to the tip of the fiber where the dark pigment is located and activates the cutting capability. To initiate the tip, gently place approximately 5 mm of fiber tip on wax coated articulating paper while firing laser. Once this step is complete, the tip should be initiated.

Reusing the disposable tips

The disposable tips are not reusable and should be disposed of after use on each individual patient

Returning Your Laser for Service/Calibration

Were you unable to troubleshoot your laser, even after reviewing the helpful hints above? If so, please contact our customer service team at 866.999.2635 and we will be happy to assist you. If it is deemed that your laser needs to be returned for service/repair, you will be provided in RMA# and you will also be asked to complete our RMA form.
